About Real Risk Podcast
Hi I’m Richard “Harry” Harris, the creator and host of “Real Risk – The Adventure Podcast”.
I am an anaesthetist from South Australia, and I started cave diving in the mid 80’s. I have always been drawn to the excitement of exploration, whether it be in caves or on shipwrecks. And now I want to find out what drives other explorers, adventurers and risk takers to do what they do!
In 2018 I was part of the international dive team that rescued the 12 boys and their coach from the Tham Luang cave in northern Thailand. That event threw me into a more public life, and has led to all sorts of new adventures like this podcast. And I am excited to share my guests’ incredible stories with you here.

“The Art of Risk”
Are free-solo climbers, underwater cave explorers and big-wave surfers crazy … or cautious? How do soldiers and fighter pilots manage risk? What can we learn from how BASE jumpers and drag racers prepare that we can take into our own lives?
In this ultimate armchair adventure, Harry takes us into the lives of other ‘risk-takers’, to find out why they do what they do. We meet people adventuring from the highest skies to the deepest oceans – BASE jumpers, drag racers, snipers and surfers – including climber Alex Honnold (from the movie Free Solo), sailor Jessica Watson, film director and deep-sea diver James Cameron.
Each gripping story is a masterclass in risk from the experts: when to go, when to say no, how to prepare and above all, how pushing ourselves a little further helps us become more courageous and resilient in all of our challenges. Publishers Simon and Schuster
